seeing your life through the lens of the gospels
John 16:12-15
1 Wisdom about life comes slowly and sometimes painfully. Hearing the ‘right’ answer at the ‘wrong’ time does not help us. We need to be ready and ospen to receiving the truth if it is to have any impact. Perhaps you can recall some occasions when it was the ‘right’ time for you to learn a truth about life. Remember your experiences of growing in understanding and truth.

Confirmation

Congratulations to the young men and women of our Parish on receiving the sacrament of Confirmation in the Saggart on Wednesday 26th May. Our every blessing goes with you and our deepest thanks go to all who have helped them prepare - parents, teachers and the Parish Team. Our thanks also goes to Fr. Ciaran O'Carroll (Director of Evangelisation and former Parish Priest of Saggart, Rathcoole and Brittas) for celebrating the ceremony for us.

Catholics believe confirmation is one of seven sacraments instituted by Christ. The effect of the sacrament of confirmation is a special outpouring of the Spirit as granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost. The bishop lays his hands on the head of each candidate. This is a sign that he is appointing them to be true witnesses to Christ. The bishop prays that each person will receive the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: reverence, understanding, courage, knowledge, wisdom, awe and wonder and right judgment. He makes the sign of the cross on their foreheads with holy chrism oil. This is a sign of strength and a reminder of their commitment to follow Christ even to the cross.

Some of the Latest News of Our Parish

Seeing your life through the lens of the gospels John 20:19-23

Jesus comes into a room full of fear. Sometimes it is fear itself that makes us close the door on others and on God. Occasionally a person comes along with the gift of breaking through our closed doors, a person who comes to be with us in our fears. Do you have memories of people getting through to you and being with you despite your closed doors? Who brought you peace in a time of anxiety?

Jesus showed his wounds to his friends. Moments of grace can occur when another shows us their vulnerable side, or when we do that with them. Let your memories speak of such experiences to you. John Byrne OSA (Intercom)

Some of the Lastest News of Our Parish

seeing your life through the lens of the gospels Luke 24:46-53
The Ascension of Jesus was an important growth point for the disciples. Jesus would be with them in a different way from now on. Painful though it was, it was necessary for them to let go of his physical presence and adjust to the new reality. Perhaps you have known similar transition points in your own life. In particular Jesus invited them to be witnesses to the good news of forgiveness. Recall people who have been witnesses to you of forgiveness and reconciliation. What effect did they have on your life? Have you been able to be a witness to the good news of forgiveness in your life? John Byrne OSA (Intercom)

The Future of the Catholic Church in Ireland by Archbishop Diarmuid Martin

What do I say about the future of the Catholic Church in Ireland? The sociological data send us mixed signals. Public opinion varies from those who would like the Catholic Church slowly, through its own implosion, to fade into the social irrelevance of private individual choice, to those who would like reform on their own terms, to those who would blindly stay with things as they are, to those who call for renewal through repentance. And there are many other viewpoints.

Some of The Latest News from Our Parish

Seeing your life through the lens of the gospels John 14:23-291

Jesus seeks to reassure his followers in the face of his imminent death. Although he will be leaving them, he promises them the gift of the Spirit. How have you been aware of the gift of the Spirit of God in your life? 2 Remember times of separation from a loved one through change of residence or other circumstances. How has the love between you been a support after the separation? 3 To his followers Jesus promises ‘we will come and make our home with them’. Our God is not a distant God but one who lives in us. What has helped you to be aware of the closeness of God to you? 4 ‘Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.’ When you have been anxious, who have been the Jesus people for you who were able to calm your anxiety? How did they do this? For whom have you been able to be a calming influence? John Byrne OSA (Intercom)
