     NEW PARISH WEBSITE

All parish business will henceforth be conducted at www.srbnparishes.ie.  Please go there for current information about the parish.

As for this old website incorporating twelve years of valuable parish history, its future is under consideration, whether to be archived or, as dealing with history and other non-essential matters, to be maintained on an occasional basis by the administrator, a parish volunteer. This home page will be revamped accordingly.

"Thank You" to our outgoing Archbishop Diarmuid Martin and "Welcome" to our incoming Archbishop Dermot Farrell

"Hearing what the Spirit is saying to the churches is no easy matter. There is no infallible way.  But there is a clear way, a tried and trusted way. That way is a way with each other – slí le chéile.  The Church of the future, the living Church of the future, will [have to] be a synodal church, or it will not be at all. [. . . ] It is an illusion to envisage a plan of evangelisation which is carried out only by clergy while the rest of the faithful are merely onlookers. The mission of the Church, the work of God, is not just the responsibility of a group of professionals; it is the call and responsibility of every baptised person whose active participation in the mission of the Church is to be considered indispensable and necessary (Vatican II, Lumen Gentium, Ch. 2). [. . .] In this light, leadership in the Church is not about telling people what to do; rather it is about promoting co-responsibility and overcoming the mindset which runs the risk of relegating the baptised to a subordinate role, effectively keeping them on the edges of Church life. That is what we mean by a synodal Church—a church on the way with each other. The very first place synodality is expressed is at parish level. If it doesn’t happen in the parish, it will not happen at all!"

From Paul Ferris on His Diaconate Ordination

Forthcoming Ordinations of Paul Ferris, Frank Browne, John Graham, Michael O’ Connor, Victor Garvin, Declan Colgan and Declan Barry to the Permanent Diaconate.
Students receive the order of acolyte
This week Archbishop Diarmuid Martin will ordain seven candidates as Permanent Deacons.    I am delighted and blessed to be one of this number.  Due to the uncertain climate and the Covid 19 restrictions that we find ourselves in today, the Archbishop will ordain the seven candidates over three days in three different churches.  On Thursday 27th August at 7.00 pm, he will ordain Michael O’ Connor and Victor Gavin in Aughrim Street Church.  On Friday 28th August at 7.30 pm, he will ordain Declan Colgan and Declan Barry in the Church of St. Cronan, Brackenstown.  Finally, on Saturday 29th August, he will ordain Frank Browne, John Graham, and myself in Saggart Church at 11.00 am.

It would be lovely and uplifting to have a packed Church during these ordinations but, unfortunately, due to the Covid 19 restrictions, this is not possible.  In Saggart we are only permitted 100 people in the church, and so it is with great regret that attendance to the ordination is strictly reserved for family members and guests only.  However, people will be able to view all the ordinations live through each Church webcam.

I would love to take this opportunity to invite everyone to join us on the webcam on our special day. I would particularly like to thank the priests and you the parishioners of the parish for all your help, prayers, and words of encouragement throughout my Diaconate journey. Please continue to keep us in your prayers throughout this coming week.

God bless you all.
Paul Ferris.
